Questions we think you should ask before buying
Only products with a Florida Product Approval are hurricane protection. Each approval number is shown on this page. Solar, insect and commercial comfort screens and flood barriers are not hurricane protection, and we label them that way.
Every approval we publish is on our Product Approvals page, with the official record link and the unaltered documents.
Not always — different openings may suit different systems. Your written estimate lists the system for each opening, so you can see exactly what is going where.
Hurricane protection is permitted work in Central Florida. We tell you in writing which authority covers your address and whether permitting is included in your estimate.
Your written estimate states exactly what is included. We don't publish prices because they depend on your openings and installation.
We look for that at the in-home assessment and include it in the written estimate before you decide — not after.
It depends on the number of openings and access around the home. We give you a schedule once the permit and product are in hand rather than a promise in advance.
Manufacturing typically takes 6–8 weeks. Installation is typically expected within 8–10 weeks after your deposit. HOA approval, permitting, weather, and product availability may affect the timeline. We'll confirm your project's expected schedule with you.
See the Maintenance row in the comparison above. Each product page also explains its care in plain language.

Permanent systems (accordion, roll-down, hurricane screens, Bahama and Colonial) are designed to be closed without lifting panels. Storm panels and flood barriers must be put up by hand. Tell us about any physical limits and we'll factor them in.
Removable panels need someone to install them. Permanent systems are faster for a neighbor or family member to close. We're happy to talk through your situation.
Removable panels on upper or high openings may require a ladder. Permanent systems are usually chosen for exactly that reason. We'll point out any openings where this applies.
Storm panels and flood barriers need storage. Permanent systems do not. See the Storage row above.
Accordions stack beside the opening, roll-downs and screens have a housing above it, Bahama and Colonial shutters are part of the home's look, and storm panels leave only mounting hardware.
See the “View when in use” row above. When open or retracted, permanent systems leave the window clear.
Bahama shutters and solar screens shade the window during everyday use. The others only darken the room while closed.
Roll-down shutters add the most everyday security. Comfort screens are not a security barrier.
Solar screens and Bahama shutters provide everyday shade. Results depend on the opening and exposure.
Insect screens help keep insects outside. Mesh choice affects airflow and view.
No. Solar, insect and commercial non-impact screens are comfort products. They have no Florida Product Approval for storm protection and are not hurricane protection.
We can't promise one. Eligibility depends on the product, installation, whole-home opening protection, inspection and your insurer's requirements.
